Thursday night found Derek Groomer in action at Paragon Speedway (Paragon, Ind.) for the Fourth of July weekend special. After a bad pill drew dropped him one spot shy of a transfer position in his heat, Groomer streaked to a consolation victory. Rolling off 16th, Derek marched through the field 15 spots to register a runner-up finish behind Will Krup with Jake Leitzman, Caleb DeMoss, and Tyler Loughmiller rounding out the Top-5.
On Saturday evening at Lawrenceburg Speedway (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) for the eighth annual Merrill Downey Memorial, Derek followed up the 11th fastest time in his group with the third and final transfer spot in his heat race. With $4,444 on the line in the feature, Groomer jumped up four spots in the 44-lapper to place ninth.
