Derek Groomer made the short trip to Lincoln Park Speedway (Putnamville, Ind.) on Friday evening to kick off the Fourth of July weekend piloting his Millikan Smiles No. D48 Modified. With 17 cars entered, Groomer clocked in fourth fastest in his group before picking up a heat race win from the second row. Receiving the pole position for the feature, Derek wired the field in the 20-lapper to claim his seventh win of the season. The following night at Lawrenceburg Speedway (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) for the 10th annual Merrill Downey Memorial, Derek logged an 11th-place finish in his heat, transferring him into the B-Main for another shot at the $10,444-to-win A-Main. Slated to start near the tail, Groomer was a scratch from the 10-lapper.
